The camera will not respond or show any sign of powering up.
If you have not charged or replaced the battery in a significant amount of time, charge the battery and try turning the camera on again. If the battery was recently charged or replaced and the camera will still not turn on, the battery is likely faulty or damaged and should be replaced. If the power button is sticking or feels like it cannot be fully pressed, try cleaning the edges around it with compressed air or a Q-tip.
Even when plugged into a power source, the battery will not gain a charge.
The battery has likely lost its ability to hold a charge, or is simply a faulty product. A new battery should be purchased and replaced. For help with this, take a look at our replacement guide.
If the battery has recently been replaced and still does not charge when depleted, the charging dock may be faulty or damaged. A new charging dock for your model should be purchased and used instead.
There is no image displayed on the LCD screen despite the camera being turned on.
The LCD screen may have been put under extensive pressure or damaged by the elements. If it is apparent that the screen has been physically damaged, purchase a replacement and change it out. For help with this, take a look at our replacement guide.
The LCD screen displays an image, but certain pixels are black or distorted.
If the image shown on the screen simply appears distorted or discolored, either the camera lens or the screen itself may be dirty. Carefully wipe the screen and lens glass to clear away any dirt or debris.
If the camera is relatively old or has been used frequently, the pixels of the screen may have begun to die. The only way to fix this is to buy a new screen and replace the old one. For help with this, take a look at our replacement guide.
And error code starting with a C:XX:XX or E:XX:XX.
The camera has detected an error within its system and is reporting the case to the user. For specific help for your individual error code, reference the link to Sony’s official error code troubleshooting listed under Additional Information on the device page.
The camera will not record any new video content despite working regularly.
If the recording button sticks or is not able to be fully pressed, it or its connections may have been damaged. In order to either repair or replace the recording button, take a look at our guide.
The system’s memory has reached its maximum capacity. You can either delete unwanted videos or pictures that you’ve taken, or backup old content onto a computer and remove them from the camera.
There may be an issue with the formatting of the SD card’s memory. Try exchanging the card with a different one.
Despite plugging the camera into a computer, the devices do not connect or you cannot access the camera’s content.
The software that your computer uses to connect with the camera may not be installed or have not been updated in some time. Try downloading the newest drivers from Sony’s website for the device. You can find a link to these under Additional Information on the device page.
The cables used to connect the camera to the computer may be faulty or damaged. Try using the same camera and cables to connect to a different computer. If the problem persists, then try purchasing new cables.
If the device drivers are up-to-date and you have tried multiple cables, then either the camera’s or your computer’s ports may be dirty or damaged. Try blowing into them or wiping them with a Q-tip to clear out any dust or dirt.
