There can be a number of issues that can cause your optical drive to stop functioning or reading discs. First, be sure the disc is not the problem. Look for scratches and try another disc if necessary. If your drive won’t open try to use a paper clip and stick it in the small hole located near the tray opening button this will eject the tray and you can put your disc in.
Because the complexity of the CD drive it is hard to manually fix it. The laser and all the small components attached to the CD drive break easily. On many laptops, the most common reason is poor cooling. Try going somewhere air-conditioned and see if that helps. Inspect the areas near the internal cooling fan to see if there is a build up of dust. This could be clogging the fan from working properly so take a quetip to clean it out. This overheating can also be caused by constant, strenuous use, so take a break from the computer for a while and see if that helps.
As soon as you unplug the computer from its power source, it shuts off.
If your battery is dead, the computer will run fine off the power adapter, but will turn off when unplugged. A dead battery can manifest itself in many forms: It may not accept a charge (this particular symptom may also indicate a problem with the logic board), the computer may not recognize the battery, or the battery may be recognized as charged but fail to power your computer when the AC adapter is unplugged.

If your power adapter is bad, the computer will run off a battery, and it won’t charge. The best way to test this is to borrow either a battery or power adapter to test. Also make sure the power cord is firmly plugged into the wall socket and the laptop. If the first socket does not work, try another one.
