No matter what you do, you can’t get your Tom-Tom to turn on.

Before trying to take apart your device, try holding down the power button for at least five seconds. The power button should light up. If the device still doesn’t turn on, continue reading.

The device may need to be charged. Plug the device into a power outlet with a charger you know works, and then hold the power button in for five seconds.

The battery may be faulty or no longer holds a charge. Follow our guide on replacing batteries to fix this issue.

The device may be on, but nothing will appear on the screen. Follow our screen replacing guide to learn how to fix this issue.

When the GPS cannot calculate route, usually due to bad signal.

Make sure device is near window or outside of car to get maximum possible signal. Once this happens your route should be calculated. Be patient as it may take a couple of minutes to find the signal.

Make sure all software is up to date. This will be talked about more in the software section however there may be with devices signal if the software is not up to date.

The device is not reading any input and/or is stuck on one screen.

Hold down the power button which is located on the top of the device. This will turn off the GPS. Once it is completely off wait about five seconds before repressing the power button to turn it back on.

If the power button isn’t working, the battery may be drained. By plugging the TomTom back into a power outlet the battery can be charged. If the device only works when plugged in the battery may need to be replaced. Refer to our Battery Replacement Guide.

If the device still does not respond after powering on and off, a factory reset may be required. Use a paper clip to press the reset button for no less than 15 seconds to reset the device to factory settings.

If the device still doesn’t work, contact TomTom with your issue and send the device back, as the touchscreen component may be faulty.

Ensure that the device is plugged into a working outlet and attempt to turn on the device again. If the device does not power on at all, refer to the “Tom-Tom will not power on” section. Otherwise, if lights are coming on but the screen is still black, continue other solutions in this section.

The software may be faulty, leading to the black screen, especially if you just updated your software.

If the device still has a black screen after updating the software a factory reset may be required. Use a paper clip to push the reset button for 15 seconds to reset the device to factory settings. Note : a software update will most likely be required after this step.

Device cannot and will not charge

Sometimes device could be plugged into a faulty outlet that does not have power going to it. Try another outlet and it should work.
