An awesome team of students from our education program made this wiki.

Laptop is excessively hot and shuts down randomly.

Make sure the space below the laptop air intake vent and exhaust vent is not blocked by any objects (also if the ambient temperature is too high i.e. room with no AC in the middle of summer)

Check to see if there are any debris clogging the intake or exhaust, if yes, use a form of compressed air (canned air) to blow away the debris

If there is no fan noise audible or no air flow from the exhaust port, the fan may be dead and need to be replace (see our replacement guide for the Fan)

The laptop may not have an sufficient amount of thermal paste between the heat sink and CPU, providing and inadequate connection. To fix this, remove all old thermal paste from the two components, then apply an amount a little smaller than a pea of new thermal paste directly to the center of the processor. From there gently push the heat sink back in place.

Laptop does not power on or show any signs of responding.

If the power adapter is plugged in and the charging light indicator on either the laptop or the power adapter itself is not lit, the power adapter may be faulty and in need of replacement.

If the power adapter is plugged in and the charge light indicator is illuminated, but the laptop will not turn on nor will the battery hold a charge regardless of the time left plugged in, the battery may be faulty and in need of replacement (see our Battery Replacement guide)

Sound clarity is not as good when originally purchased or seems distorted.

Check that the proper drivers are installed under device manager by selecting check for updates, you can update your driver by going in to the control panel -> device manager -> sound controllers. Click on the sound card and update your card. Lastly restart your computer.

Check inside the computer to see if the speakers themselves could have fallen out of the holder. See our guide till step ‘3’ (after removing the bottom panel) to determine if the speakers are in their proper location.

If the drivers are correct and the speakers are still in their proper locations, the speakers may be faulty and in need of replacement (see our Speaker replacement guide).

One or more pixels on the screen does not change color according to what is displayed or it is continuously black.

If the screen is exhibiting issues where there are pixels that maintain the same color or are constantly black regardless of what is displayed on the screen it may be possible to reset the pixel by using a program that applies white noise to a window that forces the pixel to change at a rapid pace (simply google “JScreenFix- Pixel Repair” and follow their steps given). This method has mixed results depending on the severity of the damage.

If the pixel is still not functioning, try using a rubber eraser and applying light pressure in a circular motion over the non functioning pixel. This can help reset a loose electrical connection to the pixel.

If none of the aforementioned methods have provided any results the screen will need to be replaced. (see our Screen Replacement guide)

‘’The Laptop appears to power on, but nothing is displayed on the screen regardless of wait time’’

It is possible that a faulty power button could cause the power on signal to not be sent. Check the connections from the power button to the motherboard. If the wires are connected properly, the power button may need to be replaced.

If the laptop fails to boot to the diagnostic screen (nothing on the screen at all) and it is confirmed that the laptop has power (see troubleshooting Failure To Charge Battery) then it is possible that the processor is non operational. The CPU in this laptop is hardwired to the motherboard and is not replaceable on its own. The motherboard will have to be replaced with a new or used motherboard with the CPU installed on it. (See our replacement guide here)
