No sound is coming from speakers or headphones when plugged into the audio jack.

Test audio through the computer speakers, then test it using headphones. If the audio is only distorted while listening via headphones, the audio jack or the headphones themselves may be faulty. Audio that cuts in and out is often a sign of a loose audio jack, so make sure the audio jack is fully inserted into the computer.

Ensure audio is turned on and volume is set at an audible level. If the problem persists, restart the laptop.

The screen does not display anything and does not respond to keyboard or mouse commands.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to exit out of existing programs. If you’re not able to do so, go to task manager and exit out of programs. Attempt to restart the computer, if you’re not able to do so, hold down the power button for twenty seconds and force the computer to shut off. Allow the computer to remain off for sixty to ninety seconds before holding the power button again for twenty seconds to turn it back on.

Turn the laptop off and disconnect it from the AC adapter. Hold the power button down for about 20 seconds and reconnect it to the AC adapter. Look for indications that the laptop is receiving power (i.e. LEDs, fans, or the screen). Attempt to turn the laptop back on if the laptop is showing signs of receiving power. If it does not show signs then you need to replace the AC adapter. If the laptop does show signs of power but does not turn back on then use the following link for assistance: Toshiba Support

The laptop fails to hold power or fails to charge the battery.

Plug in the AC Adapter to the laptop and check display for an indication that the laptop is charging. Ensure the output value of the adapter matches the input value of the laptop. Ensure adapter works in a separate test by charging a different Toshiba E45-B4100, or a different compatible electronic item.

Turn the laptop off, unplug, and remove the battery for twenty seconds. Now plug in the charger to the laptop from a working power outlet. Check to ensure the green power icon is lit and allow the laptop to charge overnight.

If the laptop still fails to hold a charge then you will need to replace the battery. Instructions on how to order a new battery are available at: Toshiba Support

The wireless internet connection is spotty or does not connect at all.

Check the icon displayed over the wireless internet indicator on your display panel. If the icon displayed is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point, it indicates that you are connected to WiFi but there is still an error. The problem could be from the network configuration or from the specific network you are trying to connect to. Try unplugging your wireless modem and router and re-connecting them.

The webcam fails to work properly

Go into the device manager and remove the camera (it may be listed under “unknown devices”). Restart the computer and let it detect the camera and reinstall the driver. If the above doesn’t work, download a fresh copy from Toshiba Support and install it. You will need your model number (PSPNAU-001002) and your operating system.

The camera on the webcam might be cracked and will need to be replaced. This can be done by a different manual or by sending the computer to the manufacturer.
