I continuously pull the starting cord and it will not start.
The first thing you would check is your fuel. Be sure the fuel is no more than 30 days old. If this is the case, fill the fuel tank with fresh fuel.
Secondly, the starting sequence on this model must be precise. The model requires, at minimum, ten presses of the primer bulb to start the trimmer.
If both of the first two possible causes are checked off, we would next consider the fuel in the engine. Lawn equipment is very delicate and today’s ethanol fuels can seriously damage small engine fuel systems. If you feel you may have expired fuel, drain the fuel tank by tilting the unit and fill with new fuel.
If the engine is still failing to start, there is a possibility your spark plug could be fouled or dirty. Check for debris and residue around the spark plug. The spark plug must be inspected, it is easily removed with the proper wrench.
The engine will not idle and has trouble staying on.
An air filter is a necessary component on most gas powered machines. A clean air filter will allow a machine to run much more efficiently and smoothly than a machine with a dirty one. If the engine will not idle, the first thing one should do is examine your air filter and determine its condition. Replace the air filter if it is needed.

Another possible cause of lack of acceleration could be a tangled head on the string trimmer. While trimming, grass can spin around the cutting head causing the engine limitations. If you see grass or something else wrapped around the cutting head, stop the engine and remove the debris.

The second possible reason an engine would lack power is a dirty air filter. The air filter can easily be removed and inspected. Check the condition of the air filter and determine whether or not you need to replace the air filter.
If the first two reasons can be eliminated from the possible cause list, you will need to inspect your spark plug. It is possible for a spark plug to become fouled or dirty over time. An inspection of the spark plug is required by easily removing it with the proper wrench. Check for debris or residue around spark plug. Decide if the spark plug needs to be replaced.
I tap the trimmer head and no string line proceeds to come out.
The most common cause of a cutting head not feeding line is something obstructing the head. While trimming, grass, or a number of other things, could have spun around the cutting head. Stop the engine and clean cutting head of all debris around it.
Secondly, another reason your trimmer may not be feeding the line is it may be out of line or the current line is too short to feed. The Troy-Bilt model allows for easy line replacement. If this is to be true with your trimmer, refill the cutting head with new line.
After the first two possible causes are reviewed and the problem still remains, it might be that the line on the inner reel is tangled. Sometimes the line can be improperly installed. If this is the case, remove the line and then rewind it.
