The basefont or tag is an HTML tag that allows the default font family, font size, or font color to be set for an HTML page. The tag was deprecated in HTML 4 and is no longer valid in HTML 5. CSS is now the preferred method of setting the default font family.

The tag could be used to set the default font family, size, and color of a web page, as shown below.

When used, this tag should be placed in the head tag (and), found near the beginning of the HTML code. Other supported attributes include class, dir, id, lang, style, and title.
