A glass house is a name given to rooms often found in large corporations that contain the networking equipment, such as routers, switches, and firewalls. Alternatively called a server room or server closet, a glass house may also include the servers or mainframes that make up the corporation’s IT infrastructure. The name glass house is used because equipment is often in an isolated room with glass windows which allow people to look in without disrupting anything. The windows also help reduce noise.
