Weaboo or weeb is chat slang commonly used on the Internet to describe fans of Japanese anime cartoons or manga comics. The term originated from a newspaper strip and webcomic called The Perry Bible Fellowship. Although the word has a nonsensical origin with no historical meaning, it was frequently used as an insult. Because of its popularization across subcultures on websites like Twitter and Reddit, many anime fans proudly accept the term.
