When referring to a web page, an access log is file(s) containing a list of each of the files accessed on a server. Most servers log the IP address, date, time, file, browser, operating system, or the referring page. Below is an example of how an entry in the access log may look.
1.1.1.1 - - [22/Feb/2005:17:32:27 -0800] “GET /favicon.ico HTTP/1.1” 200 1406 “-” “Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10.1” “www.computerhope.com”
Most users don’t require access to a raw access log because many web hosts have a report or chart automatically generated from the log. Finding who or what accessed a file or everything an address accessed on the server, is found in the raw access log.
