Short for Basic Combined Programming Language, BCPL is a programming language developed in 1966 by Martin Richards of the University of Cambridge. It quickly became popular, largely because of its high portability. BCPL is the successor to the CPL programming language, the first language to print the infamous “Hello World!” test message, and the first programming language used to create a MUD.
